Choosing The Perfect First Dance Song

By DJ Scott Shaw - Scott Shaw Productions - Myrtle Beach, SC

Brides often ask me for suggestions about what songs to use for the special dances and moments during their wedding. Not so much the first dance song, (most Bride's usually have a pretty good idea of what they want for that moment), but for the other special dances and moments that happen throughout the wedding celebration. This is understandable, for these moments only happen one time, and you want to make sure that you get your choices right, or more importantly, make the choices that are right for you. While I might suggest a song or two, I know that what might be right for one person won't necessarily resonate with another.

So rather than making individual song suggestions, what I like to do is to offer a method of choosing your songs instead.  I call it the "power of association". The illustration below is a list of 30 ideal first dance songs. What I always suggest is to take a look at the songs on the list, think about some of your favorite artists and songs, and then decide which of the songs that come to mind have a similar feel or message to the songs on the list. More often than not, a perfect selection from your personal list of favorites  will pop into your head, and before you know it, you've chosen the perfect first dance song.

This illustration is from the music library of the planning area that I use for my clients. This particular list can be found by going to the music library, choosing the tab labeled Top His, and choosing the box labeled Weddings. As you can see, this section includes other useful lists, such as "Bride & Father Dances", "Groom & Mother Dances", and so on. Another great feature of these lists is the ability to preview the songs that are on the list. Please use the link below if you would like to see the music library for yourself:
